Do you plan on taking advantage of all the holiday sales this weekend?
Well, not really related to Labour Day, but I did buy somr clothes for next week's quiz taping.
And of course, went and bought the Redbelt DVD. Definitely one or my favourite movies this year with Dark Knight.
Quick MtG Tarot draw. Hmm, MOGG INFESTATION?
I guess it's a good warning for work. Good thing, there's only 4 days of it...
The other in the latest installment of the SAQ's Tchin-Tchin magazine, I came across a great recipe for shooter-style cold soups. Not being a fan of Gazpacho, I tried instead the Avocado-based recipe and was pleasantly surprised by the results. It was thicker (almost milk-shake like) than I expected, so don't expect to drink straight from the glass without leaving gooey traces here and there, but it's a good way to fight the heat.
AVOCADO SHOOTERS
About 375 ml (1 1/2 cups) or 15 shooters
-
1 avocado, peeled
-
250 ml (1 cup) water
-
30 ml (2 tbsp) chives
-
30 ml (2 tbsp) lemon juice
-
Salt and pepper. to taste
-
Chopped coriander
-
Tequila (1 splash per shooter)
-
In a food processor or blender, combine the avocado, water, chives, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
-
Refregirate for at least an hour
-
Just before service, pour a little tequila into each shooter glass, add the avocado mixture and garnish with corinader. Serve with small spoons.
For my last critiic of this year's Fantasia festival, I got to see Hwaryeohan hyuga (May 18). I'm a bit conflicted about the movie. On the one end, it was a formulaic "good" vs "evil" story with stereotypes painted with a very BROAD brush.
Then again, it does bring the spotlight (kinda) on the 1980 Gweangju "rebeillon" which was one of the stepping towards the democratization of South Korea.
Come to think of it, I'm pretty if this were an American movie, it would have the kind of sappiness fueled by Tom Cruise as the male lead. And the good guys would have won!!!
MtG-wise, I've drawn GOLBIN GLIDER. Hmm, the combination of a clumsy race and aerial transportation is not a good omen, for sure...
Last day in La Cité and then, Ixtapa!!! There is the small matter of having to coming in 2 hours early for an implementation a day after, we had some rather unexplained systems faiilure but I am confident everything will work out just fine. And if it doesn't, well I'm pity the fool who'll have to pick up this mess while I'm gone.
One other thing I'm very happy for is the fact that I don't have any projects pending which prevents the awkward of giving information and hoping no unforseen errors crop out. Talk about a weight offf my shoulders. All that remains for the trip is to pass by the library to drop/pick up some books to take along and I'm all set
In other news
When I saw this story about the so-called Devil Frog, I couldn't help but chuckle a little and think of my D&D days where truly giant (man-size) frogs plagued the swamps
Still having a frog whould could eat dinosaur hatchlings tickles my fancy.
On my last MtG draw before departure, I got MOGG SQUAD. Why it it that I am thinking of the TV series, all of the sudden?
Scary mental picture, to be sure...
See you in 2 weeks with a flurry of notes from my trip.
Spent all day travelling La Cité's subway on various errands. It's been a while since more time going to somewhere vs the time I acutually spent at my destination.
All for the glory of the Illuminati!
The week-end wasn't a total waste as I got the opportunty to come across the latest issue of White Dwarf magazine. While the issue's emphasis was on the upcoming Apocalypse (finally giving players an excuse to use all their miniatures in the same fight), I was rather taken by a piece on the Ultramarines.
I have to state that my knowledge of 40k is rather limited, since I don't play the game itself and it was rather to my playing of the old Fantasy RPG that our paths would cross from time to time.
Reading more on this particular "army", I consider it to be a very good item to try and transpose to my story. I could easily see a "Delta Force" type of unit that could use such technology in my world. But no company of Vortex grenade-weilding heavy armoured marines... Yet!
It's been a long time since I last did, so here's another tiny portal to my soul, this time in the form of "What planet I am from? "
I am from Neptune
You are dreamy and mystical, with a natural psychic ability.
You love music, poetry, dance, and (most of all) the open sea.
Your soul is filled with possibilities, and your heart overflows with compassion.
You can be in a room full of friendly people and feel all alone.
If you don't get carried away with one idea, your spiritual nature will see you through anything.
Hmm, the only comfort is that it doesn't link me with Sailor Neptune. On second thought... *grin*
Staying on this awkward segue, my MtG draw of the day is SKIRK VOLCANIST, It's always hard to find a reason to these draws, although the "morph" item maybe a good start to explore...
It's the end of the data gathering, so I went out and look at the stats for the past year and I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed as how it turned out.
Another sub-par performance with just a litlle over 40% in getting new stuff is making me push back my ETA for another year. At least the slide is a little better than the previous year but still a bit frightening. Maybe, just maybe, I could see as a sigh that I need to change my focus and concentrate on some other medium (blogging, mayhaps?), especially now that that I have 2 blogs full-time, work is a unrelenting mistress, my so-called social life has gone the way of the dodo, it could be that I need to rething my strategy as to how I should use "The Game".
Add to this that, due to new IT guidelines at work, I am cut off from a lot of interesting which help me with my search. I will probably have to update my "Rules to the Game" to cover this new paradigm.
Data-wise, While I was tempted in making broad sweeping changes, I have decided to put some items on the back shelf and wait to use it at a later time
Stuff like gratuitous mention of mount barding (Even for a fantasy-themed WWII stort, outside of the Charge of the Light Polish Brigade hoax, I don't see how it could fit realistically), Stuff about Ireland, using Norse Gods (shades of David Brin) as possible antagonists and I have decided to lay off taking any new data for the time being unless something REALLY interestings pops up.
MtG-wise, I've drawn MOGG FLUNKIES, which could mean anything at this point...
